Recycling and Sustainability

Recycling & Sustainability

At Grants of Australia, our goal is to ensure that any waste our products produce can biodegrade or be recycled rather than contribute to more landfill, which is why we are committed to using sustainable materials and packaging wherever possible.

OUR TOOTHPASTE TUBE AND BOX

BOX: Our toothpastes are packaged in a recyclable cardboard box which can be flattened and popped in your recycling bin. The box is made from board that has 80% recyclable content and printed with vegetable ink.

The box is used as a ‘tamper evident’ indicator. The box lids are glued closed so that our customers can see at a glance that the box hasn’t been opened. Supermarkets require packaging that is ‘tamper evident’ as also quick and easy for their staff to replenish on shelves.

TUBE: Check with your local council regarding recycling of the toothpaste tubes – unfortunately most recycling centres do not accept laminate toothpaste tubes. The good news is that you can recycle all our toothpaste tubes via Terracycle, simply cut tubes in half, rinse out the excess and drop off at your local Terracycle drop off point. Click here to find a drop off point near you

Several years back we did a feasibility study on changing our toothpaste tubes to a PCR material that could be recycled but there are strict rules regarding PCR plastics in food (and items that go in your mouth, such as toothpaste). To do this, we would have had to have an engineered material that unfortunately was going to be about 4 times more expensive and would significantly increase the price of our toothpaste. We are keeping our eye on packaging developments and hope that an affordable option that suits our toothpaste is just around the corner!

OOUR TOOTHBRUSHES & PACKAGING

BOX & WRAPPER: Our toothbrushes come packaged in a recyclable paper wrapper, and recyclable cardboard box which can both be flattened and popped in the recycling bin.

TOOTHBRUSH: Our toothbrush handles are made from 100% biodegradable and environmentally sustainable bamboo. The bristles are made from nylon which are not compostable but can be recycled. Break off the bristle head or remove the bristles with pliers and recycle as per your local recycling facility guidelines.

The bare bamboo handle can then be composted and will safely return to the soil!

The bamboo our toothbrushes are made from is sustainably sourced in the Zhejiang Province in China. It is a wild, quick growing and low maintenance bamboo, watered only by natural mountain rain. No pesticides or fertilizers are used on the bamboo. Our bamboo supplier harvests less than 1% of the possible bamboo resources in this large mountain region.
